More Jewish Holidays

shavuot.jpgI have already mentioned the fact that I teach in a state school and therefore get very few of the Jewish holidays, in fact only Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Mainstream Christians get all their holidays since the calendar follows their festivals and the rest of us were allowed three days off. These days were mentioned each year on an official list.

Hurray! Things have changed. The other day my friend Joelle phoned me to tell me the list had been extended to two more days, namely June the 9th and 10th (this year), that is to say Shavuot.

The most unusual element about this list is that it mentions five days for the Jews but still only three for other religious groups.

that’s so interesting! okay, so i clicked over but i definitely don’t read french. does everyone get all those holidays off, or just the students and teachers who follow that particular religion? (and what about interfaith families?)

No, not everyone gets those days off, only the people concerned. But I have to ask before hand, although because of the official nature of the list, permission is then automatic.
I believe the students don’t have to ask for permission (it’s possible but not complusory). If you are absent your parents will excuse you through a wrtitten note you bring when you get back.
I have no idea about interfaith families (of any faith), sorry. I guess that as long as their absence is explained it’s ok.
