Since I am on holiday, I tend to cook and read a bit more and write less; which means that in the coming weeks you’ll probably find mostly recipes, and maybe a few book reviews too, on this blog.
Here are the links to my three favorite recipes for challah:
- Quick Challah at Frugal Kosher
- Ima’s Challah (not my Ima’s) at Not Derby Pie, my latest find but also my favorite now

My favorite advice regarding challah baking comes from Jeff Nathan in Adventures of Jewish Cooking. Assuming one is using only white flour (it doesn’t work with whole grains), get the consistency of the challah dough to the point where it feels like a baby’s tush.
I never follow a recipe anymore while baking challah…
The photos on Ima’s Challah is making my mouth water.

Interesting piece of advice and one I’ll try to keep in mind.
Cooking and reading are a wonderful way to spend a vacation!
Are those your challot in the photo on top?
Unfortunately these challot are not mine. I should definitely take of picture one Friday afternoon.
I’m not sure who can look at this but my wife belongs to a challah making group that also has a Facebook page
Thank you Larry for the link.
I love the photo!
I will check out the recipes. My favorite challah is made by my son-in-law, Allan. I don’t have his recipe…it is a secret…lol.
How lovely to have such a son-in-law!
I wish I had time to make challah! However, my BJF makes fabulous challah and luckily for me, I get to spend most Friday evenings with him, being wonderfully entertained, fed, watered and pampered. So, I can manage for now!
You are a lucky woman. I find that maikng challah in the winter is quite hard since I ususaly work until one, sometmes two in the afternoon. It is much easier in summer.
Yes, indeed I am lucky!
